WOUND HEALING POST FRENULOTOMY

Guide for Parents/Carers

After you have left clinic, you should continue to feed your baby as usual or as guided by an agreed feeding plan.

There is no "wound care" involved and you should avoid putting your hands/fingers in your baby's mouth until the wound has healed.

Following tongue-tie release there may or may not be a diamond-shaped wound healing under the tongue.

It is normal for this diamond shaped wound to look white or yellow and sometimes even orange.

The wound will eventually return to the colour of the inside of your baby's mouth over 7-14 days. Sometimes the procedure site may look a bit more pale than surrounding tissues as it continues to heal, this is normal.

Take extra care with sterilising feeding equipment.

Contact your practitioner if your baby's wound looks swollen, red and inflamed.

Seek medical review if your baby  develops a high temperature, is reluctant to feed or is unusually sleepy or irritable.
